As said in the article, a digital representation would allow the artist to easily adjust the perimeters and develop new versions of the artwork. In addition, it’s easy to copy the files behind the work so if this is a collaborative effort the team could each have a copy and get work on it at the same time.
However, I still believe in a final, hand-drawn piece of art, as it feels more like a final, finished work. However, this is except the case of interactive artwork, where a screen is often needed. Even in this case, I wish to see the work on a large, custom screen instead of a computer screen.
I believe that computers are only able to execute and imitate for the time being. I’ve seen on the news that an artist used computer-generated lyrics to create a song. However, this made the lyrics very much based on popular words. Thus, I don’t think computers themselves can create truly original works, it’s the artist behind it that matters.
