• Is there any value in recreating an existing image/drawing/graphic using computational media? What is it?

Recreating an existing images is the starting point of art since Renaissance, it promotes creativity by establishing and exploring new ways of portraying something from a different angle. Computational media, especially, contains both the designers’ intention and the computers’ quality, thus producing a different sets of qualities thus transform beyond the physical world.

The emerging popularity of AR and VR, interactive installation has proven the interest in blurring the boundaries between the physical and digital. Some may argue that the computational media lacks human touch and craftsmanship, it undeniably also unlocks the beauty of other aspects.

• Do you think that both, hand and computational drawings cause the same feelings in the viewer? 

computational drawing are calibrated in pixels, containing a strong sense of technological influence. They are precise, highly manipulated. On the other hand, hand drawings have more variables depending on the humans’ mood, environment, materials, humidity etc. Thus, they convey different feelings.

• Do you think technology will replace humans in the future? What about art? Using the computer to draw, makes the computer the artist? can computers be artists?

Technology has not gone as far as replacing human brains in terms of their abilities to imagine, create and innovate. Art, in general, are also not able to be replace as it consists of the thoughts and contemplations of current affairs, political issues that requires deep thinking. Yet, machine learning has enable computers to learn from humans and generate similar artworks according to the past works.
