Question 1 The type of machine I’m interested to build

Question 2 Kinetic art installation

The rippling effect-2
This kinetic art installation is named “Pulse”, a two-story tall installation consisting of 15*26 rectangular mirrored stainless steel pieces. Each individual piece can be flipped vertically, in addition to being capable of reflecting different degrees of light. The differentiation in shades, accompanied by the controlled motions of the pieces, creates mesmerizing visualizations. When people are detected nearby, “Pulse” correspondingly creates a rough image of their figures and their motions.
To me, “Pulse” is an interesting work overall. In many ways “Pulse” is similar to “Wooden Mirror”, since it also experimented with unusual materials to “mirror” reality. What “Pulse” has done uniquely is that its visuals incorporated the element of ambient environment; without sufficient lighting in the surroundings, the interaction between people and the artwork couldn’t exist. This is an indication of the project’s interactiveness. The circuits we’ve assembled during class, is also capable of sensing the physical surroundings and to take relevant responses, showed similarity to “Pulse”.
good job, Nicole. That’s a pretty detailed explanation about the machine you would like to build. I think a stepper motor will work better for your purposes, though. A stepper can control better the movement of the strings.
