Homework Day 2 – Simon Hsieh

Working with my classmate Tiger, we have decided to use the ultrasonic sensor as our analog device, and the touch sensor as our digital device. Ultrasonic is used in various devices for detecting distance, such as sonar in submarines. Besides, unlike more common devices like buttons, we have less chance to tinker with this sensor. Touch sensors, on the other hand, is used even more frequently in our daily lives. For one thing, modern phones rely on touch sensing technologies. The module that we had in our set was a rather basic one, but it allowed us to have a better idea of how touch-sensing works nonetheless.

From what I have learned in these experiences and from my own experience, I believe that computers are already having a huge influence on our daily lives. For one thing, we can’t live without computers and mobile devices these days. However, we still use them mainly to increase our productivity, and it isn’t adding much to our senses yet (I wish for devices that broaden our senses, such as allowing me to see more of the electromagnetic spectrum). In the future, it would be great to see consumer devices that enhances our senses.
