Homework – Day 2

Programming and Experimenting
with Arduino Hardware

Hello World: Ultrasonic Seensor Installation – Source

Why did you choose that specific sensor and output? How do you think you could use this sensor to create an interactive experience?
The ultrasonic sensor is something I haven’t worked with in the past, hence I decided to give it a shot by making a “Hello World” program in tandem with an LCD display as the medium of output –– which is also something I have not tried out in the past. This combination of hardware can be a great foundation for a physical interactive experience –– as physical movements and shifting distances can trigger reactions from the LCD, as demonstrate in the video (a brief example).

With the information you have so far and your personal experience, in what ways do you believe the computer influences our human behaviors? Give an example.
Ever since smartphones have become a common item people carry, people’s behaviors have shifted drastically –– such as the ‘necessity’ of grasping onto their phones, the constant glance at their lock screen for notification and timekeeping (instead of wearing a watch for timekeeping), and many more quasi-subconscious behaviors that people do due to heavy influence of the presence of computer technologies such as smartphones.
